This Onyx Pendant is called a ‘Naja’ which means ‘crescent’ in Navajo. This open Pendant is usually found at the lower center of a Squash Blossom Necklace. This pendant is stamped on the back with the letter ‘C’ and ‘Sterling’, and measures 1 3/8 inches wide by 1 3/8 inches tall, approximately 1 3/4 inches including the large bale. It has an 8mm by 10mm Onyx Stone that ‘hangs’ or ‘dangles’ from the top inside of the crescent, also set in a sterling silver setting. Folklore says that Onyx was considered a stabilizing stone, especially during times of extreme stress because it prevented loss of energy from the body.
